The float test can be taken at the UAH fitness center, call the center (256-824-5500) to find a time to take the test during open swim hours. The float test should be conducted in deep water while wearing a long sleeve shirt and long pants.
The student should float, swim in place or tread water for least ten minutes while observed by a certified lifeguard. In the final minute of the test you must put on a life vest while continuing to tread water. A ten-minute float test is valid for four years. Here is a float test form to be signed by the lifeguard and a risk and release form to be signed by you, use this risk and release form if you are under 19. Bring both forms with you to practice. You can try rowing for 1 week before needing a float test.
